PixelRelay vs Elevar

Fix the paid signal. Skip the extra platform.

Both products are built for Shopify and both offer managed server-side delivery. PixelRelay is the narrower choice: one Shopify conversion relay, first-party collection, and a per-order delivery ledger—without turning measurement into a broader data platform rollout.

Elevar is a credible choice when deeper monitoring and data-layer controls are the point.

Built around Shopify

Start with the store, not a blank tracking canvas.

PixelRelay is not an all-ecommerce platform adapted to Shopify. The store is the source of truth: orders arrive from Shopify, storefront context stays first-party, and every outgoing event follows one Shopify-aware definition.

That narrow scope removes a layer of translation. There is no generic schema to map before a purchase can move, and no separate container to keep aligned with checkout changes.

From install to useful signal

Two managed products. Different amounts of setup surface.

Elevar has streamlined its product well. The practical difference is how many tracking concepts your team wants exposed after install.

Elevar

A broader managed tracking workspace.

  1. InstallInstall the app and grant store access.
  2. EnableTurn on the Shopify theme app embed.
  3. SourceConfirm the Shopify source and event collection.
  4. DestinationsAdd and configure each marketing destination.
  5. ValidateReview real-time activity and monitoring.
The resultMore controls to configure and govern after launch.

PixelRelay

A Shopify app, not a tagging project.

  1. InstallAdd the PixelRelay app to your store.
  2. ConnectChoose destinations and authorize each account.
  3. VerifyWatch orders arrive in the delivery ledger.
The resultNo GTM container, theme edit, or hosting account.

Elevar setup outline follows its current installation, Sources, and My Tracking documentation.

Delivery you can check

Know it arrived. Know when it didn’t.

Most tracking setups give you a number in a platform dashboard. The number you actually need is which orders are behind it — and which ones aren’t.

Per-order reconciliation

Live delivery status for every order, per platform, checkable against your Shopify admin — with the reason when one didn’t relay: duplicate, stale order, quota, relay disabled.

Retries that surface

Failed sends are retried automatically, capped, and surfaced in your dashboard if they still can’t be delivered — so a failure becomes a task, not a silence.

Counted once

PixelRelay recognises sales an existing sender already reported and doesn’t send them again. One order stays one conversion, in every dashboard.

Breakage alerts

Threshold-based, not hopeful: events quiet for four hours, or delivery under 80% across a day, and you hear about it — instead of finding out at month end.

Choose by operating model

The right question is who should own the tracking stack.

Feature lists age quickly. These are the durable questions: scope, setup, control, and what your team wants to maintain after launch.

Honest answer

Choose Elevar when the broader measurement layer is the product.

Elevar is not simply hosted GTM anymore. Its current managed product combines Shopify sources, destinations, data-layer tooling, profit optimization, and configurable monitoring. If your team wants that broader control surface and mature alerting, it deserves the shortlist.

Choose PixelRelay when the job is narrower: recover paid and lifecycle signal, keep collection first-party, see what reached each destination, and avoid adopting a larger analytics platform to do it.

Questions

Before you change anything.

Not for its current managed server-side product. Elevar documents its own Sources and Destinations workflow and recommends that managed path over maintaining your own sGTM container. See Elevar’s overview.
No. Shopify orders arrive server-to-server and PixelRelay sends directly to connected platform APIs. The first-party storefront script adds click and journey context; it is not a GTM container.
Its current documentation shows a broader data-layer and monitoring product, including Sources, Event Builder, profit optimization, and configurable accuracy alerts. That breadth matters when a measurement team wants to shape and govern more than conversion relay.
Technically, yes. Avoid sending the same conversion through two active relays unless the destination can deduplicate the pair reliably. One canonical sender per conversion is easier to audit.
