ComparisonsPixelRelay vs Stape

Your store needs signal.
Not another GTM project.

Stape helps you run server-side Google Tag Manager. PixelRelay takes a different route: connect your Shopify store and destinations, verify delivery, and leave the relay infrastructure to us.

Choose the work
you want to own.

Both can support server-side tracking. The difference is whether you want to manage a tagging stack or connect a focused Shopify relay.

Stape + server-side GTM

A stack you control.

  1. Set up web and server GTM containers.
  2. Connect Stape hosting and the Shopify app.
  3. Configure collection and destination tags.
  4. Test, publish, and maintain the configuration.

Its Setup Assistant automates parts of setup. Your team still works with GTM containers and tags.

PixelRelay

A relay we manage.

  1. Install the Shopify app.
  2. Connect and configure your destinations.
  3. Verify orders and destination outcomes.

No GTM containers or separate hosting account. You retain responsibility for your account settings and tracking configuration.

Built around the sale. Not a blank container.

Shopify orders and available storefront context come into one managed flow. PixelRelay prepares eligible sends for your connected platforms.

Illustrated inputs. Availability varies by event and consent.

These are inputs to PixelRelay, not proof of ad-platform delivery. Storefront events and server-side order capture are separate paths.

Less infrastructure. Still a way to check.

The goal isn't another dashboard to watch all day. It's an answer when you need to know what happened to a sale.

Start with an actual order.

Review destination outcomes against Shopify instead of assuming a connection means every event arrived.

Know what needs attention.

Retryable sends are retried within limits. Unresolved failures surface in PixelRelay for investigation.

Keep the result in perspective.

A delivery response is not attribution or a guaranteed campaign result. Consent, account setup, supported events, and quotas still apply.

The best fit isn't
the same for everyone.

Choose for your store, your destinations, and the team that will own the setup.

Choose PixelRelay for a focused Shopify workflow.

You want supported conversions sent to connected platforms without managing GTM. Check destination coverage and plan requirements before switching.

Check your integrations ↗

Keep Stape when GTM flexibility matters.

Your team needs custom tags, transformations, or destinations beyond a built-in catalog. A working GTM setup may already be the right tool.

Stape also documents Shopify webhooks. This is a choice of operating model, not a claim that only PixelRelay can receive server-side orders.

Switch deliberately. Not blindly.

A little clarity before you change your tracking.

Ask about your setup ↗
Can I keep Stape for other tags?

Yes. Keep it for the jobs you still need. Review overlapping conversions before adding PixelRelay: use a tested deduplication configuration or one sender for the same conversion.

Does Stape have an easier Shopify setup now?

Yes. Its Shopify app and Setup Assistant reduce manual work. The documented sGTM path still involves containers, destination configuration, and testing. See Stape's guide.

Do I have to remove my native channel apps?

No, not just to keep catalogs or selling features. Audit their conversion sends alongside GTM and PixelRelay so the same purchase isn't reported through uncoordinated paths. Read the channel-app guide.

Does PixelRelay replace every GTM feature?

No. PixelRelay is a Shopify-focused relay with supported integrations and plan-specific features, not a general-purpose tag manager. Check plan coverage and headless implementation requirements.
