PixelRelay sends your store's shopping events to Google Analytics 4 from our servers, so ad blockers can't stop them. You need two things from GA4: your Measurement ID and a Measurement Protocol API secret.
Get your Measurement ID and API secret
- In Google Analytics, open Admin and choose Data streams. You need Editor access on the property.
- Select your web data stream.
- Copy the Measurement ID (it starts with
G-) from the stream details.
- On the same page, open Measurement Protocol API secrets. Click Review terms and accept, then Create. Name it something like
PixelRelayand copy the Secret value. Keep it private.
Connect in PixelRelay
- Open Connections and click Connect on Google Analytics 4.
- Paste your Measurement ID and API Secret, then click Connect. Nothing is sent yet.
Turn off your old GA4 tracking
If the Google & YouTube app, GTM or theme code still sends shopping events to the same GA4 property, they'll be counted twice. Follow Turn off old GA4 tracking for the exact clicks.
Turn it on
Go to Guided setup → Switch & enable. Work through Switch over Google Analytics, click Mark as done on each item, then click Enable Google Analytics tracking straight away. Do it in one sitting.
Check it's working
- Browse your store in a normal window, add something to your cart, or wait for your next order.
- In GA4, open Reports → Realtime and look for the events. They usually show within a few minutes. Standard reports can take a day or two.
- In PixelRelay, Reports → Event log shows what was sent to GA4 and any errors.
Troubleshooting
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| "Measurement ID must start with G-" | Copy the Measurement ID from the web stream, not the property ID or stream ID. |
| Nothing in Realtime | Check that Guided setup says Google Analytics tracking is on, then make some new store activity. Check the Measurement ID and API secret come from the same web stream. |
| Events land in the wrong property | The Measurement ID is per data stream. Copy it from the property you report in. |
