If anything else sends events to the pixel PixelRelay uses, TikTok counts them twice. TikTok only matches duplicates that share an event ID, and other tools never use PixelRelay's.
Do it in this order
Do it in one sitting. It's the same order as Guided setup → Switch & enable:
- Connect TikTok in PixelRelay, and finish the store check and plan approval if you haven't yet.
- Under Switch over TikTok, turn off each old source below (or check you don't use it) and click Mark as done.
- Click Enable TikTok tracking right away. Leaving both on counts sales twice, and a long gap misses sales.
- Watch Event status on the same screen for the first event, then check it shows up in TikTok Events Manager.
- If the store check still finds old tracking on your storefront, remove it and click Check my store again.
Try not to switch in the middle of a big sale or campaign push.
TikTok's Shopify app
- PixelRelay has its own pixel: leave the TikTok app as it is. It keeps its own pixel. Still check the sources below, since they might send to PixelRelay's pixel.
- Same pixel: in Shopify admin, go to Sales channels → TikTok → Settings → Data sharing, choose Standard and save. Then tick TikTok's native Sales Channel app shares this same pixel ID in PixelRelay (Connections → TikTok Pixel → Edit). Details in TikTok app.
Google Tag Manager
- In GTM, open your container and go to Tags.
- Find the TikTok tags that send to PixelRelay's pixel: Custom HTML tags with
ttq.load(in them, or TikTok Pixel template tags. - Open each one, click ⋮ (top right) → Pause, then Save.
- Click Submit, then Publish. Pausing only takes effect once you publish.
Using a server container too? Pause its TikTok Events API tag and publish that container as well.
Custom pixels
- In Shopify admin, go to Settings → Customer events.
- Find any pixel that sends TikTok events. Custom pixels and app pixels are in the same list. Not sure what one does? Click … → View details to see its code (look for
ttq). - Click … → Disconnect. A green Web badge means it's on, grey means it's off.
Disconnecting keeps the code, so you can reconnect it later. Leave any PixelRelay pixel connected.
Theme code
Only if someone pasted TikTok pixel code into your theme.
- Go to Online Store → Themes. On your current theme, click … → Duplicate first, so you have a backup.
- On the current theme again, click … → Edit code.
- Open
layout/theme.liquidand search it (Ctrl+F or Cmd+F) forttq.load(. Also look insnippets/for files liketiktok-pixel.liquid. - Delete the TikTok block, or wrap it in
{% comment %}and{% endcomment %}so it's easy to put back. Then Save.
It usually looks something like this:
<script>
!function (w, d, t) {
w.TiktokAnalyticsObject = t; var ttq = w[t] = w[t] || [];
...
ttq.load('C1234567890');
ttq.page();
}(window, document, 'ttq');
</script>
Not comfortable editing code? Ask whoever added it. PixelRelay's own tag runs from the PixelRelay Pixel app embed, not your theme code, so leave that on.
Other tracking apps
Using Elevar, Littledata, Analyzify or similar for TikTok? Turn TikTok off in that app, or uninstall it if TikTok was all it did.
Check again
- Guided setup shows what the latest store check found on your storefront. If it still lists a TikTok pixel after you've removed it, click Check my store again.
- On the shared-pixel fallback, the check will still find the TikTok app's pixel. That's expected.
- The store check can't see custom pixels or anything sent from servers, so check those yourself.
Switch back
- Turn the old source back on: Unpause the GTM tags and publish, reconnect the custom pixel (Settings → Customer events → … → Connect), or put the theme code back.
- Stop PixelRelay sending to TikTok: Settings → Relay → Who tracks each network? → set TikTok to My existing setup (PixelRelay sends nothing).
Do both, so you don't end up with two senders, or none.
