Facebook & Instagram app

Shopify's Facebook & Instagram app can send your store's events to Meta too. If it sends to the same dataset as PixelRelay, turn off its data sharing so Meta doesn't count sales twice. Keep the app installed for your catalog, shop and ads.

Do this in the same sitting as turning Meta on in PixelRelay. GTM tags, custom pixels, theme code and other apps are covered in Turn off old Meta tracking.

Turn off data sharing

  1. In Shopify admin, go to Sales channels → Facebook & Instagram → Settings.
  2. Scroll to Share data and click Change.
  3. Turn data sharing off and save. The card should then say Data sharing is off.

That section also shows which pixel the app is connected to. If it's a different dataset from the Pixel ID in PixelRelay (Connections → Meta Pixel → Edit), the app isn't sending to PixelRelay's dataset and you can leave it.

Every level sends events: Standard through the pixel, Enhanced and Maximum through the pixel plus Conversions API. So picking a lower level isn't enough. Turn sharing off, which stops both the app's pixel and its server feed.

Headless (Hydrogen) store? The app's pixel can't run on your storefront, but it still sends checkout and purchase events from Shopify's servers. Turn data sharing off anyway.

Is it still sending?

PixelRelay's store check can't see the app's data sharing, so check the setting yourself after you save. Mismatch warnings in Events Manager → Diagnostics usually mean something still sends to the dataset. They take about a week to clear. More in Check again.

Undo

Turn data sharing back on (Settings → Share data → Change). Then in PixelRelay, set Settings → Relay → Who tracks each network? → Meta to My existing setup (PixelRelay sends nothing). Do both, so only one of them sends.

Not connected yet? See Connect Meta.
