Turn off old Microsoft Ads tracking

Two UET setups counting the same purchase can double it. Switch the old one off at the same time you turn PixelRelay on.

Do it in this order

Do it in one sitting. It's the same order as Guided setup → Switch & enable:

  1. Connect Microsoft Ads in PixelRelay, and finish the store check and plan approval if you haven't yet.
  2. Under Switch over Microsoft Ads, turn off each old source below (or check you don't use it) and click Mark as done.
  3. Click Enable Microsoft Ads tracking right away. Leaving both on counts sales twice, and a long gap misses sales.
  4. Watch Event status on the same screen for the first event, then check it shows up in Microsoft Advertising.
  5. If the store check still finds old tracking on your storefront, remove it and click Check my store again.

Try not to switch in the middle of a big sale or campaign push.

Microsoft Channel app

Installing it adds a UET tag to every page of your store. In Shopify admin, open Microsoft Channel under Sales channels and turn off its conversion tracking. Microsoft's help doesn't name the switch, so look through the app's settings. You can keep the app for your product feed.

Google Tag Manager

Pause your UET tags and any Microsoft Ads event tags, then Submit and publish the container. Check your server container too if you use one.

Custom pixels

Microsoft's own Shopify guide has you add UET as a custom pixel. Go to Settings → Customer events and click … → Disconnect on any pixel that sends UET events. Leave PixelRelay's own pixel (PixelRelay Checkout Tag) connected.

Theme code

Go to Online Store → Themes → … → Edit code, and search layout/theme.liquid and snippets/ for the UET tag. It looks like this:

var o = { ti: "12345678" };  // your UET tag ID
// script src: //bat.bing.com/bat.js

Make a copy of your theme first (… → Duplicate), then remove the snippet, or ask whoever added it.

Other tracking apps

Elevar, Littledata, Analyzify and similar apps can send UET events too. Turn Microsoft Ads off in that app.

Check again

Once you've removed the old tag, click Check my store again in Guided setup. The store check can't see custom pixels or anything sent from servers, so check those yourself.

Switch back

Turn the old setting back on, and pause PixelRelay's side: set Microsoft Ads to My existing setup (PixelRelay sends nothing) under Settings → Relay → Who tracks each network?
