TikTok app

If TikTok's Shopify app is installed, pick one of two setups: a separate pixel for PixelRelay (recommended), or the same pixel with the Standard fallback below.

Which pixel is the TikTok app using?

In Shopify admin, go to Sales channels → TikTok → Settings → Data sharing. The connected pixel shows under Customer data sharing. Compare its Pixel ID with the one in PixelRelay (Connections → TikTok Pixel → Edit).

  • Different: you're set. Leave TikTok's native Sales Channel app shares this same pixel ID unticked in PixelRelay.
  • Same: set up a dedicated pixel (recommended), or use the shared-pixel fallback.

Set up the PixelRelay pixel

This gives PixelRelay its own pixel, with its full browser and server tracking, separate from the TikTok app's.

  1. In TikTok Ads Manager → Tools → Events, click Connect data source → Web.
  2. Enter your domain. Choose Manual setup, then TikTok Pixel + Events API.
  3. Name the pixel PixelRelay and create it. Skip the code install steps. PixelRelay adds its own browser tag.
  4. Generate an access token: in the setup guide's Implement Events API step, or later under the pixel's Settings → Events API → Generate Access Token.
  5. In PixelRelay → Connections → TikTok Pixel, enter the new Pixel ID and Access Token. Leave the shared-pixel box unticked and save.

Leave the TikTok app as it is. It keeps its own pixel.

To measure a campaign with the new pixel, pick it as the ad group's data connection, along with your optimization event. Move ad groups in a quiet week, not mid-promotion.

Fallback: keeping both on one pixel

  1. In Sales channels → TikTok → Settings → Data sharing, choose Standard and save.
  2. In PixelRelay → Connections → TikTok Pixel → Edit, tick TikTok's native Sales Channel app shares this same pixel ID and save.

PixelRelay then sends only for shoppers whose TikTok browser tracking is blocked, and doesn't add its own TikTok tag. That fills the ad-blocker gap, but it's not PixelRelay's full coverage for that pixel.

What TikTok's data collection setting does (and doesn't) change

Sharing levelWhat the TikTok app sends
StandardBrowser pixel events
EnhancedBrowser pixel and server events
MaximumBrowser pixel, server events and additional sharing

Use Standard for the shared-pixel fallback. Enhanced and Maximum send their own server events, so a blocked browser doesn't leave a gap for PixelRelay to fill, and both would count the same sale.

Why the setting matters

TikTok only matches duplicate events that share an event ID. PixelRelay can't use the TikTok app's event IDs, so two full senders on one pixel get counted twice. A separate pixel, or Standard plus the checkbox, avoids that.

GTM tags, custom pixels, theme code and other apps can send to the same pixel too. Turn off old TikTok tracking covers each one, and how to switch back.
