Browser and server
PixelRelay sends each event from our servers through the Reddit Conversions API, so ad blockers can't stop it. Once Reddit is on, PixelRelay's theme embed also loads the Reddit Pixel on your storefront, using your Pixel ID. The browser and server copies of an event share a conversion ID so Reddit can match them up.
Want server-only? Set Reddit to PixelRelay — server-side only under Settings → Relay → Who tracks each network?
What gets sent
| What happened | Reddit event |
|---|---|
| Product viewed | ViewContent |
| Added to cart | AddToCart |
| Checkout started | InitiateCheckout (custom event) |
| Payment info added | AddPaymentInfo (custom event) |
| Search | Search |
| Order placed | Purchase |
| Recharge subscription start | Subscribe (custom event) |
| Recharge renewal | Purchase |
Reddit has no standard event for checkout or payment info, so those arrive as custom events. Page visits come only from the browser pixel, not from PixelRelay's servers. Recharge events need Recharge connected.
Matching shoppers
PixelRelay sends hashed email when the shopper's consent allows it, plus Reddit's click ID (rdt_cid) when the shopper came from a Reddit ad.
Duplicates
Reddit only merges two copies of an event when they share a conversion ID. PixelRelay's browser and server copies do. Your old pixel, the Reddit Ads app or another app use their own IDs, so they'd be counted on top.
If your own Reddit Pixel is on the storefront, PixelRelay stops firing its own Reddit browser events, but it still sends server events. See Turn off old Reddit tracking.
Timing
PixelRelay sends events as they happen. Reddit can take a little while to show them in Events Manager.
Troubleshooting
| What you see | Try this |
|---|---|
| Not accepted in the event log | Generate a new access token in Events Manager and paste it under Edit. Check the Pixel ID is the one the token is for. |
| Purchases show up twice in Reddit | Your old pixel is still sending. See Turn off old Reddit tracking. |
| No events in Events Manager | Check Reports → Event log first. If they're Delivered there, give Reddit a little longer. |
Your token and account ID
You can generate up to five Reddit tokens, and deleting one turns off anything using it, including PixelRelay. A token isn't tied to one pixel, so any admin on the business can use it.
Account ID (optional) in PixelRelay is your Reddit Ads account ID, like t2_abc123. PixelRelay only stores it for reference.
Disconnect
Click Disconnect on the Reddit Ads card in Connections. PixelRelay stops sending to Reddit. To pause without disconnecting, set Reddit to My existing setup (PixelRelay sends nothing) under Settings → Relay → Who tracks each network?
